Biography

SHARLINE LIU is thankful for the unique opportunities which have come her way. With a background in musical theater, she has been privileged to perform for American and United Nations troops on a Persian Gulf and European tour, sung and danced in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular with the Rockettes, and cheered professionally for the NBA (choreographer, Marguerite Derricks).

Since her arrival in Los Angeles, Sharline has appeared in roles on CRIMINAL MINDS (recurring), HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, MAJOR CRIMES, ALLY McBEAL, THE PRACTICE, and others.

She still relishes, however, the energy of live theater. Early 2018 she has the honor of performing onstage with icon George Takei in the Los Angeles premiere of ALLEGIANCE, chronicling a Japanese-American family’s journey during World War II, facing internment at camps on U.S. soil. This co-production between East West Players (EWP) and Japanese American Cultural & Community Center (JACCC) marks the show’s first regional production following its Broadway run, which featured Tony-winning Lea Salonga and Telly Leung alongside “Uncle George.” Sharline previously wrapped a lauded run as “Marie Dindon” in an all-Asian cast of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES at EWP, featuring Broadway veteran Gedde Watanabe and Olivier Award-nominated Jon Jon Briones, who currently reprises “Engineer” in the 2017 Broadway revival of MISS SAIGON.

Musical theater highlights include lead roles in FLOWER DRUM SONG (“Linda”), SWEET CHARITY (“Charity”), THE WIZ (“Dorothy”), GREASE (“Sandy”) and LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (“Audrey” cover). Other productions include Stephen Schwartz’s world premiere opera SEANCE ON A WET AFTERNOON (dir. Scott Schwartz, Stephen’s son), INTO THE WOODS (dir. Jon Lawrence Rivera), HELLO DOLLY with Valerie Perri in title role, A CHORUS LINE, SWEET CHARITY with Patti Colombo and Reece Holland (dir. Sam Viverito), CABARET (dir. Jules Aaron), PACIFIC OVERTURES (with Broadway’s Mako), FOLLIES (with Amy Hill, Sab Shimono, and Freda Foh Shen), and a critically acclaimed production of GUYS & DOLLS featuring Andrew Varela (“Javert”, LES MISERABLES 25th Anniversary tour) and Danny Rutigliano (“Timon”, LION KING Broadway and Los Angeles).

Play credits include Julia Cho’s THE LANGUAGE ARCHIVE (EWP, dir. Jessica Kubzansky), ONCE IN A LIFETIME (dir. Chris Hart, Moss’s son), AS YOU LIKE IT (dir. Richard Israel), and MEASURE FOR MEASURE, covering Jennifer Paz (“Kim”, MISS SAIGON 1st National Tour/LA Company).

Sharline has studied Shakespeare with the inimitable Alfred Molina, the revered Patsy Rodenburg (London’s National Theater and Guildhall School of Music and Drama), and briefly with American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco with Judith Moreland.

For those who enjoy country music, you might have seen Sharline onstage with Mel Tillis in Branson, MO, or performing to thousands at Shoji Tobuchi Theater. There, she had the unique life opportunity to learn how to twirl a “flat loop” and a “wedding ring” (rope tricks) from the late, great cowboy, Montie Montana. She can even throw a lasso with her own rope!

A magna cum laude graduate of U.C. Berkeley, she looks forward to future opportunities and adventures.

Soli Deo gloria.
